Nags Head Surf Camp

About this camp
Overview
Experience the East Coast's premier surf destination at Nags Head Surf Camp, located in the heart of North Carolina's legendary Outer Banks. With the largest waves on the East Coast thanks to Cape Hatteras jutting 30 miles into the Atlantic where the cool Labrador and warm Gulf Stream currents collide, this is where serious surf meets southern hospitality. The camp offers professional instruction for beginning and advanced surfers alike, with friendly instructors who cover everything from paddling to wave selection to board maneuvering. Whether you're a first-timer or looking to advance your skills, the rolling beach breaks and consistent sandbars of Nags Head provide the perfect classroom.
Accommodation
Nags Head Surf Camp is a day camp operation - no overnight accommodation is provided. The camp operates from Villa Dunes Drive in Nags Head, with daily sessions running from 8am to noon. The Outer Banks offers countless vacation rental options from oceanfront cottages to family beach houses just minutes from the surf. Nags Head features over 40 public beach accesses with parking, restrooms, showers, and dune-straddling walkways, plus three fishing piers including the historic Jennette's Pier.
Surf
Ride the shifting sandbars and pier breaks that have made the Outer Banks a surfing mecca since the 1940s. The OBX coastline is uniquely situated to receive swells from multiple directions - wintertime brings excellent east-facing conditions while summer swells sweep into south-facing beaches. Nags Head Pier and Jennette's Pier offer classic pier break setups with both lefts and rights, while countless beach breaks stretch along miles of pristine sand. With a 3:1 student-to-instructor ratio, camps move to wherever the best sandbars are on any given day. All equipment is provided including soft-top boards, leashes, and shaded tent for breaks between sessions.
